Queer Representaton in American Media

Within The Office there is one main character who is gay. That character is Oscar Martinez.

Oscar Martinez’s homosexuality is always with his character, but there is one main episode where we see it covering the “A Plot” of the episode. That episode is Season 3 Episode 1 “Gay Witch Hunt”.

The episode starts with Michael learning that Oscar is gay and awkwardly embarrasses himself and Oscar in an attempt to learn about homosexuality. The Office sticks onto its main theme of entertaining the reader, but also points out the how uninformed the masses are about homosexuality at the time. For example: Michael asks Oscar how two men would even “do it”. Michael even has Dwight watching gay p*rngraphy in order to do research on homosexuality.

The show goes on to disregard common gay stereotypes brought up by Michael. Michael mentions how if he was gay he would be extremely flamboyant and waving a rainbow flag. Oscar is embarassed by this statement. The show is indirectly teaching that being gay doesn’t define how a person acts or behaves, and is more of a trait in addition to their character. Another gay stereotype that gays like all men is brought up and dismissed when Michael asks if Oscar wants to touch him. Oscar is insulted by the offer.

The end of the episode reveals that Oscar was bribed with a paid vacation to not sue the office place. Ultimately the episode despite having some awkardness in it does a pretty good job of informing the masses of the falseness of several gay stereotypes aswell as pointing out how uninformed they are.

Camera Shots Task

The POV established the plot of the student going to be late for turning in his homework.  3. The medium close up: The only challenging part was not to laugh. The student looks up from his phone in realization 4. Extreme Close Up: This helps build emotion and suspense for the student to know where he’s coming from. 5. Extreme long shot: Shows more of the surroundings and begins the running scenes. Not very hard to film. 6. Wide Shot: The only real problem was that people kept walking by, it establishes the student running more 7. Medium Long Shot: Keeping the subject within the range of medium long shot was challenging while moving.  8. Low Angle Shot: This shot was easier than expected to make, it shows the subject going into the classroomm so we can transition into there 9. Over the sh...
